Taylor rule
The Taylor rule is an equation, introduced by the economist John Taylor in a paper published in 1993, that prescribes a value for the federal funds rate. Variants of the rule use different inputs and settings, so different versions can give different values. The Atlanta Fed offers a utility that lets users compute the prescriptions of Taylor's original rule or of a customized version. A rule's prescription is not a Federal Reserve decision.
